Bramhope Campsite Rules

These Site Rules must be made known to all your Leaders, young people and other members of your group/party. The Manager’s interpretation of these rules, and what is, and is not allowed to take place on the campsite is final.

Arrival

On arrival on the campsite, the leader of the party must report to the Duty Manager (usually in reception) before anybody goes onto a camping field or enters a building.

For building users the leader of the party should inspect the buildings and their contents and report any damage and deficiencies to the Duty manager ASAP.

Risk Assessments

All visiting parties must have their own Risk Assessments relevant to their visit. These must be in harmony with the site’s Risk Assessments as well as these rules. You may be asked to supply a copy of your own risk assessment.

Fees

If the fees have not been paid in advance they will be invoiced after the event. Please note we do not accept card or cash payments on site. Please either send a cheque or make payment by bank transfer, all information will be on the invoice.

Animals

The only animals to be brought onto the campsite are guide dogs for the blind. Domestic pets will be allowed on the stoned car park areas only.

Highway Code

In general the provisions of The Highway Code are deemed to be in force on the campsite and must be adhered to at all times. The speed limit on the campsite is 5mph.

Motor Vehicles, Trailers and Caravans

These must be parked in the car park and must not be taken onto the grass and camping fields. Hand trolleys are available for carrying equipment. Parking on the main driveway is not allowed. Loading, and unloading may take place with the Duty Manager’s permission.

Caravans are only allowed by prior arrangement. Please note however, we do not have facilities for electric hook up or the emptying of chemical toilets.

Cycles

Cycles are welcome on the campsite but must not be ridden on the camping fields or grass.

Fireworks

Fireworks are not permitted on site.

Non-residents

People not staying overnight must leave the campsite by 11pm.

Property and Equipment

The security of personal and group property on the campsite is the responsibility of the owner. Central Yorkshire County Scout Council does not accept any responsibility for loss of or damage to such property and recommends that it be adequately insured.

Aircraft

Bramhope Campsite is in the vicinity of an airport and therefore falls within “controlled airspace”. For this reason and other reasons of safety and privacy, remotely controlled heavier-than-air aircraft (fixed-wing or otherwise) must not be flown over the campsite, controlled from within the campsite, launched or allowed to land within the campsite. Bramhope Scout Campsite and Activity Centre do not accept any responsibility for the consequences of those people who break this site rule. Drones are not allowed.

Public Address & Loudspeaker Systems

Outside broadcasting of voice and/or (particularly repetitive) music by amplification and loudspeakers through a public address system is not permitted without a specific written application to the Campsite Steering Committee and without specific approval by that Committee. At least one month’s notice is required for this. If approval is granted, the date, the number of loudspeakers, the time “window” and any other limits and conditions will be specified and must be adhered to. The campsite does not provide any equipment for these purposes.

Quiet Period

The quiet period on the campsite and in the buildings is from 11pm to 7am.

First Aid & Illness

Each campsite group must provide its own first aid kit to deal with minor incidents. First aid kits are available in all buildings and in the Site Office if required. All accidents and illnesses must be reported to the Duty Manager at the earliest opportunity and an accident form completed.

Sewage System

The campsite has its own sewage treatment system. Disinfectants, bleaches and chemicals (including those from chemical toilets) must not be put down any of the sinks, washbasins, toilets or drains as this will stop the sewage works from doing its job. Only those cleaning fluids marked “Bio-degradable” can be used.

Chemical Toilets

These should only be used on the campsite in extreme cases. The liquid used must be either plain water or with the addition of “Green” toilet chemicals. These must NOT be emptied down a surface water gully. They may only be disposed of down a toilet which should be cleaned appropriately afterwards. Scout parties, please remember if you use portable toilets for whatever reason, you will need a Greenfield Permit to cover it.

Cleaning of the Toilet Block

It is the responsibility of the site users to ensure the ongoing cleanliness of the site toilet block. All campsite users must be prepared to assist with the cleaning of the toilet block or other small associated jobs. We prefer groups to work this out between them but if necessary the Duty Manager may specifically request individual groups to contribute to this task.

Fire Precautions

As a site we strongly recommend undertaking a fire practice.  Whenever the alarm is heard all campsite users must go to the EMERGENCY ASSEMBLY POINT  (this is currently at the BBQ Griddlery in the Activities field area) check numbers and remain until told to disperse.

Boundaries

  • All the surrounding residential and farm land is out of bounds.
  • Campsite users must not damage the campsite boundary walls and fences, stones and other materials must not be removed from field walls and fences.
  • Campsite users must not climb over the field walls and fences.
  • Campsite users must not interfere with livestock in adjoining fields and must not feed the animals.

Alcohol

The Yellow Card Safeguarding Code of Conduct for Adults states that adult volunteers must not drink alcohol when they are directly responsible for children and young people in Scouts. They must never allow under-18s to drink alcohol on Scout activities.  Bramhope Campsite & Activity centre follows the scouting policy. Adults must NOT consume alcohol when they are directly responsible for young people and must NOT permit young people (aged under 18 years) to consume alcohol on the site. Further information can be found on the Scouting & Alcohol Green card.

Smoking, including electronic cigarettes & vapes

Under UK law, smoking is banned in public places. Smoking is therefore banned in all Scout buildings, including premises which are rented, vehicles, and marquees and tents on campsites.

All adults in Scouting follow the Yellow Card Safeguarding Code of Conduct for Adults  and must act as a role model, inside and outside of Scouts.

Fires and Wood

Wood fires are only allowed on altar type fireplaces, both those that are provided and those that campers may bring themselves as long as they are constructed so that they do not damage the grass or drop hot embers. The campsite has only a small number of fire grids that can be lent out. These can be found behind the woodpile.

Wood must be obtained only from the woodpile or picked off the floor. All unburnt wood should be returned to the woodpile at the end of your visit. When returning wood please ensure that it is clearly no longer burning and has been well and truly extinguished.

You are warned that due to its nature, wood on the pile may contain exposed nails. Anyone climbing on the woodpile MUST wear strong boots and gloves.

Any surplus ash may be disposed of in the rubbish bins. Please ensure that it thoroughly wetted before emptying it and that it does not contain partly burn wood.

All fires must be out by midnight unless carefully supervised.

A bucket of water must be available at all times that there is a fire and be kept adjacent to it.

Saws, axes or knives must not be used on standing timber, it may look dead but only an expert can be certain.

Rubbish

As much rubbish as possible should be burnt, particularly waste food. All non-combustible rubbish must be put in the bins.

The digging of refuse pits is not allowed.

Please help to keep the campsite clean and tidy by picking up rubbish whether or not it is your own.

Recycling

The campsite has a recycling scheme. Please recycle whenever possible. We are able to recycle plastics, metals and paper/cardboard products. Please ensure that any food containers are rinsed and free from food particles, if they aren’t reasonably clean please treat them as rubbish. They should be placed in the recycling bin which is located adjacent to the rubbish bins. Clear plastic sacks are available from the Duty Manager.

Please ensure only recyclable material is placed in this bin, if it is “contaminated” with rubbish the entire bin is classed as spoiled and then treated as rubbish.
